The Indiranagar Fabric
A Neighbourhood of Layers. Generic Domestic Help Doesn't Stick.
Indiranagar is arguably Bangalore's most cosmopolitan residential postcode. It houses old Kannadiga families in sprawling bungalows behind Defence Colony, affluent professionals in high-end apartments on 100 Feet Road, a vibrant expat community drawn to its café culture, and young entrepreneurs who live above the very restaurants they run. The result is a domestic landscape where one home might require a cook who understands no-onion-no-garlic Jain meals, while the next expects someone who can whip up a Thai green curry for a dinner party — and both homes are on the same street.
What trips up most placements here is not a lack of skill but a mismatch in domestic culture. In Indiranagar, the person who manages your home must often interact with English-speaking family members, understand that the kitchen might be kosher/halal/vegan depending on the day, and navigate the unspoken rules of a household where multiple generations or cultural backgrounds coexist. A maid who treats every home as a standard three-room flat isn't neutral — she's a liability that creates daily friction.
We recruit specifically for this layered reality. Our Indiranagar pool includes domestics who've worked with expat families, know Continental and Pan-Asian cooking basics, speak enough English to follow a recipe or communicate with a child, and — crucially — have experience in homes where the domestic culture is a blend of traditional Indian values and global expectations. Before we even assess skills, we assess cultural fit.
One insight that resurfaces: Many Indiranagar households include senior citizens who've lived in the area for decades and resist changes to the kitchen or household order. We match domestics who can respect that legacy while still accommodating the younger generation's modern preferences — a dual sensitivity that generic candidates almost always lack.
